Development and increasing population have everyone talking about in-town Atlanta, but the market still values land north of the city.
RE/MAX ranked the top four markets in the Atlanta area as Smyrna, Chamblee, Cumming, and Alpharetta. Rankings were weighted by factors like increases in property values, the number of days homes spend on the market and surveys of brokers in the area.
It’s easy to see why Smyrna stole the top spot. In 2015, the median home sale price in Smyrna was $292,000. A year later, it jumped to $320,375. “The development of nearby SunTrust Park makes Smyrna very appealing to younger buyers looking to stay close to the city,” RE/MAX Around Atlanta owner Kristen Jones said.
Chamblee, on the other hand, is proving to be a hot-spot. In 2015, new listings were on the market for an average of 40 days. By 2016, that number dropped below 25.“With a recent $300 million investment to jump-start the redevelopment of the GM assembly plant, Chamblee is primed for appreciation,” Jones said.
Alpharetta and Cumming continue to rank highly because of their increasing value, development, and impressive schools. In fact, Alpharetta is ranked No. 1 on Movoto’s “10 Best Atlanta Suburbs.”
With a diverse range of sporting venues, concert venues, world-class restaurants, and other entertainment, living north of Atlanta has incredible attractions. Statistics like these help buyers understand what the market is likely to do, and what they’ll need to be prepared for.
