Have you taken a stroll down the Beltline?
If you’ve been on the Eastside trail, you’ve probably spotted the brigade of Georgia Power trucks. The company owns a 10-acre facility just South of Ponce City Market, and it’s now available for purchase. Well, in theory. “We plan to place the facility on the market this April to gauge interest, but we have not committed to selling the property,” Georgia Power spokeswoman Ashley West said in a statement to the AJC.
The additional traffic in the area causes delays for Georgia Power, so it may make sense if the price is right.
For now, we’ll wait and see.
Regardless, it would be a surprise if Georgia Power held on to the property for much longer.
A number of apartment projects have been built nearby, and more are on the way. A redevelopment of the former Masquerade nightclub into luxury apartments and an office tower on a new Kroger store next to Ponce City Market will only increase traffic, and value, in the area.
Developers will be excited by the prospects. The property is highly attractive because it connects the trail and the park. Chalk up another win for the Beltline’s economic impact, and for Atlanta residents.
